a Borderless independent production company

Founder, Colin Scott, is a Sundance Documentary alum, a Michener Screenwriting fellow, and a graduate of the UCLA Producers Program. Following work as an Alaskan fishing guide, wildland firefighter, and major metro paramedic, Colin founded To Build a Fire Films, which serves as a fully remote independent production company and has since premiered films at the Berlinale, Sundance, and SXSW.

Colin recently produced the critically acclaimed feature narrative Ted K, which premiered at the 2021 Berlinale, received four-stars from The Guardian, and was acquired by NEON (Parasite, Anora), and helped develop the Academy Award-nominated short Winter Light into feature-length God’s Country starring Thandiwe Newton of Westworld, which debuted at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.

Outside of narrative work, Colin has directed, produced, and lensed a number of highly acclaimed documentaries in such remote backcountry locations as the Yukon Territory, Blackfeet Tribal Lands, and Togo West Africa.

To Build a Fire’s latest film, The Saüna Master (written/produced by Colin Scott), is currently being shot on location in Estonia and is set for release in early 2027.
